Cotlandswick in line for new leisure facility
Developers interested in building a new leisure facility at Cotlandswick, Hertfordshire, are to submit their final bids to the local authority by the end of this week.
St Albans City and District Council (SACDC) aims to appoint a preferred contractor in March 2011, with plans submitted as early as May. Drivers Jonas Deloitte are leading the council's project management and design team for the scheme, along with the redevelopment of St Albans' Westminster Lodge Leisure Centre.
The team includes S&P Architects, which designed the new Westminster Lodge facility and will advise the council on design aspects on the Cotlandswick submissions. However, a SACDC spokesperson said that prospective developers would have used their own architects and contractors to draw up their proposals.
The new Cotlandswick facility, which is due to open in late 2012, could include a multi-purpose room; a fitness gym; synthetic turf pitches; and changing rooms. It is hoped work that construction work will commence in late 2011, with London Colney Recreation Centre remaining open until the new facility is complete.
