David Lloyd Leisure invests in kids' concept
Health club operator David Lloyd Leisure is to invest £1.35m in rolling out its DL Kids concept for families - with a new facility in Dublin the latest major investment project underway.
The £750,000 purpose-built DL Kids facility at David Lloyd Dublin Riverview, Clonskeagh, will open to members and non-members in September.
It is part of an expansion of the successful model with an additional £600,000 earmarked for DL Kids upgrade initiatives at UK clubs this year - including Derby, Knowsley, Nottingham and Warrington.
DL Kids Dublin will feature three multi-purpose activity rooms, a sports hall, play frame, soft play zone, outdoor area, DL Kids 'cafebar' and lounge, providing children aged 0-11 years with a range of programmes running throughout the year specifically designed to complement the way they learn in pre-school and school time.
David Lloyd Leisure's head of sport, health and fitness for families, Sarah Hobbs, said: "Families are at the heart of what we offer.
"Encouraging children to get involved in a variety of physical activities from a young age is absolutely vital if they are to develop core skills such as balance, flexibility and hand-eye coordination."
The first purpose-built DL Kids facility opened at David Lloyd Raynes Park in 2010, and, following its success, the concept was rolled out to Leeds, Finchley, Hampton, Beckenham. The first DL Kids to open outside the UK was in Barcelona, Spain.
The David Lloyd Leisure Group operates 81 clubs in the UK and a further 10 clubs across Europe.
