Fire-ravaged Esporta club to reopen
The Riverside Health and Racquets Club in Chiswick, part of the Esporta group, will re-open in April 2008, having been closed for two years following a fire that destroyed most of the club’s buildings in March 2006.
The 155,000sq ft site now offers 25,000 sq ft more internal space, along with enhancements to the tennis courts, gym, pools and health and beauty areas.
Tennis will remain a core feature of the Riverside Club, one of the first commercial facilities in the UK to be awarded high performance status by the Lawn Tennis Association.
With three more covered courts added, courtesy of an all weather winter bubble, the club will now boast 15 covered courts.
Another new addition is the 25m x 8m outdoor pool with an integrated 6 x 8m children’s pool, both of which will be heated all year round.
The club’s gym has been expanded and is now 40 per cent larger at 10,000sq ft.
A new adult-only spa area has also been added, which will also operate as an independent day spa.
Features include seven treatments rooms, all with walk-in showers; indoor and outdoor relaxation areas; manicure and pedicure stations, a spray tan room and an large hydrotherapy pool.
A separate sports therapy unit, with five treatment rooms and its own reception area, will offer an array of alternative treatments for members and the general public.
The rebuilding work also included improvements to the restaurant, which has been re-designed with a new adult dining area offering an a la carte menu and table service. Other features include a separate family dinning area and internet lounge.
Simon Miller, general manager, said: “We are so proud of this amazing new facility. Tennis will once again be a core feature, but in addition we have been able to dramatically extend the gym and spa areas, remodelling the club to meet the needs of more of our members.”
It is the second Esporta club to launch this year, following the newly-built Gloucestershire Health and Racquets Club, which opened its doors to members on 14 January.
