Fitness suite and spa opened at Dewsbury Sports Centre
Kirklees Active Leisure has completed the £1.1m refurbishment of Dewsbury Sports Centre’s fitness facilities.
An extension to the existing gym and a new mezzanine floor has meant the centre now offers an 80-station fitness suite, a separate gym for women and beginner sessions only, a studio and a new Shokk children’s gym.
A spa featuring an aromatherapy room, sauna, steamroom, ice station and spa pool has also been added.
Ian Whitehead, business development manager for Kirkless Active Leisure, said: “We believe that to move forward within the leisure industry, we have to modernise our centres, not just replace like for like. We need to be innovative in our ideas to keep people interested in being active and encourage new people into our centres.
“The government is keen for everyone to know the importance of regular exercise, in particular for children and teenagers to combat the increasing obesity problem. In putting together an attractive fitness area, with one specifically designed for children and another one where group sessions can take place in a relaxing environment, we believe we have taken away some barriers to exercise which may exist.”
He added :“The spa will also help to attract people to the centre who will enjoy relaxing after a work-out or a hard day’s work. The health benefits of a Spa can include a reduction in stress and muscle tension which are increasing ailments in today’s society. We look forward to officially launching this new area of Dewsbury Sports Centre later in November.”
The revamp follows an upgrade of the centre’s swimming pool, changing village, reception and café last year. Details: www.dewsburysports.co.uk
