IDEA predicts future trends
The global membership organisation for exercise professionals, IDEA Health & Fitness Association (IDEA), has published the results of its 15th annual IDEA Fitness Programs & Equipment Trends Report.
The survey, aimed to assist fitness programme directors and facility managers to map out what fitness equipment their customers are using the most and what fitness programmes they might need to consider including in their offer.
The report shows that personal training continues to be in high demand, while fitness equipment trends are aligned with the sustained growth in personal training.
Types of equipment that are easily transportable and that can be individualized are very compatible with personal training sessions.
The constant stream of new group exercise formats is also a consideration for managers, as large enough facilities and qualified instructors are needed to make the sessions successful.
The report also shows that so called 'mind-body programming' has only had mixed success. The big area of growth is in Pilates, while meditation, tai chi and yoga have declined in prevalence.
