Kirkintilloch leisure centre opens
A £7.6m leisure centre in Kirkintilloch, East Dunbartonshire, opened on 21 July.
The centre was funded by the Kirkintilloch Initiative (KI), which is a partnership between East Dunbartonshire Council and NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde.
The leisure centre features a 25m swimming pool, a teaching pool, sauna and steamroom, a 70-station fitness suite with Technogym equipment and Wellness Management System, a studio, a multi-purpose sports hall, conference and meeting facilities and a café.
Outside amenities include four floodlit five-a-side third generation football pitches, two floodlit synthetic tennis courts and a children’s play park.
Councillor Amanda Stewart said: “The new leisure centre is the first project to be delivered by KI. Through extensive public consultation, local people had a genuine say in where it would be built, how it would look and what facilities it would have. Now it’s here, at the heart of the Kirkintilloch community, I hope people take ownership of it, look after it and enjoy it.”
Duncan Hamilton, director of KI, added: “This is KI’s first major project to be delivered for the town but not its last. Work is continuing on a new Arts Centre, a new Health & Social Care building, the Kirkintilloch Link Road and much more. The town’s regeneration is only just getting underway.”
