New REPs awareness campaign to launch
The Register of Exercise Professionals (REPs) will launch the first part of its new awareness campaign in September with a massive marketing drive aimed at club/centre owners and operators.
Information will be sent to gyms, health clubs and leisure centres across the UK, encouraging them to ensure that all fitness instructors working on their premises are REPs registered.
The four-month campaign will help operators to prepare and make the most of phase two, which starts in January 2007.
Phase two is when clubs and centres will be sent additional marketing materials advertising their staff’s registration status to members of the public.
Posters and information flyers will also explain how clients can verify their instructors’ credentials via the REPs website.
Supported by the Fitness Industry Association (FIA), the Register’s posters and leaflets remind employers that REPs’ registration of all fitness staff will become a key condition of its Code of Practice.
The main tag-line for the campaign to operators is: “Your REPutation is only as good as your instructors” and for the consumer information leaflet: “Our REPutation is your guarantee”.
Registrar Cliff Collins said: “Everyone working within the industry must be made aware of the FIA’s Code of Practice and its stipulation that anyone working as a fitness instructor must be REPs’ registered.
“The two stages of the campaign will allow operators to get into a strong position, to create a local competitive edge and to be ready before the message is taken to gym users.
“We hope this campaign will show the public that as an industry we have extremely high standards and that we are prepared to work together to ensure these standards are met.
“Operators should be proud of the FIA code and advertise the fact to their members that all their instructors are REPs’ registered.
“We know from the success of our last public awareness campaign that members of the public are extremely receptive to messages of quality control and are increasingly discerning when it comes to ensuring trade standards are adhered to. Already 1,000 people a day check the qualifications and registration status of our members. We hope this campaign will be just as successful in sending out a message of unity and excellence.” Details: www.exerciseregister.org
