New REPs recruits flying high
Twenty RAF personnel have joined the ranks of the Register of Exercise Professionals after graduating from a PTI course.
Although other Physical Training Instructors have joined the Register the group are the first complete course group of new PTIs to gain level three Advanced Instructor and Personal Trainer status.
As well as studying for all the usual level three requirements during the 42-week full-time course, the group also learnt skills specific to their work within the RAF, including parachuting and survival training.
REPs registrar Cliff Collins was one of 200 guests invited to the special passing-out parade held at RAF Cosford, near Wolverhampton in the Midlands.
He said: “The dedication and knowledge demonstrated by the group was outstanding. The PTI course is immensely popular and the recruitment process is very tough, so standards are very high. The group should feel very proud of themselves.”
The audience was treated to individual presentations from each of the candidates, who have now been made up to the rank of Corporal, as well as group demonstrations including a step-class conducted in full combat gear, complete with helmets, backpacks and guns.
The newly-qualified PTIs will now be posted to RAF bases around the world.
As part of its work with all the armed services, the Register has been working with course instructors to ensure that all PTI training schemes meet current industry requirements and fully equip students for work both in the forces and civvy street.
