New gym opens in Wombwell
A new gym has officially been opened at Wombwell Swimming Pool in Barnsley by Olympic swimmer James Kirton.
The facility, which is managed by Barnsley Premier Leisure (BPL), boasts Technogym equipment and a dedicated free weights room.
Kirton, who had his first swimming lessons at Wombwell Swimming Pool over 15 years ago, said: "This is just what Wombwell needs and I am looking forward to being able to use the facilities here myself."
Martin Prest, facility manager for BPL at Wombwell Swimming Pool, said: "The swimming pool is very popular here, but there has always been demand locally for gym facilities. We are delighted with the overwhelming response we have had already from residents and are looking forward to helping even more local people to improve their health and fitness.
"It is ideal for anyone who wants to get fit, but without having to sign up to a long term contract or spend a lot of money. In these uncertain times, many people are looking for good quality facilities, but without having to make a long term commitment to gym membership, which is just what we are offering here."
Wombwell Swimming Pool is one of three venues included in the new BPL membership package, Fitness Flex. The membership scheme costs £14.99 a month with no joining fee or monthly contract. Members can also use the facilities at two other venues, including Darton Community Sports Centre and Dearneside Leisure Centre. Use of the swimming pool facilities at Wombwell Swimming Pool and Dearneside Leisure Centre is also included.
