Robin Park Sports Centre and Arena in Wigan is set to upgrade and expand its facilities this summer.
The centre’s 10-year-old outdoor track will be replaced by a new £180,000 polyurethane track approved to International Association of Athletics Federation (IAAF) standards.
The present track will close on 14 August, while the contractors – ERDC – fix the new track in place for an October opening. The indoor track will remain in operation throughout the development.
In addition, 23 pieces of Technogym fitness equipment will be installed in the centre’s Profiles gym for use from September.
The centre is managed by Wigan Council on behalf of the Wigan Leisure and Culture Trust (WLCT).
“This investment will help Wigan Harriers and our Sports Development Unit to continue to provide activities and events for young people to enjoy. The new track is a sign of WLCT’s commitment to Getting Wigan Active.” Details: www.wlct.org
