People log on to check out their fitness instructors
The Register of Exercise Professionals’ (REPs) public awareness campaign – Check Out Your Instructor – is generating more than 400 additional visits to the REPs’ website every day, as people log on to verify the qualifications of its members.
As part of the campaign, members of the public are encouraged to visit www.exerciseregister.org and check the registration status and qualifications of exercise professionals teaching them.
This message was put across through an extensive national campaign by distributing 8,000 posters and boards free of charge to more than 2,000 different clubs and centres across the UK.
Registrar Cliff Collins said: “People would never dream of booking a holiday through an agent that wasn’t ABTA registered nor would they hesitate to check a professional’s status through organisations like the BMA or the Law Society. We wanted, through our campaign, to educate the public that the Register is there to help them in the same way when it comes to protecting their well-being in matters of fitness.
“We are delighted that the message has filtered through so quickly and that, through articles in the national press and through clubs supporting the campaign and displaying posters, so many people are now aware of the work we do.”
The Check Out Your Instructor campaign is just one aspect of the REPs’ public awareness agenda which includes raising the profile of the Register’s role in career development.
This includes working with training providers as well as generating publicity through the careers pages of national newspapers including, most recently, the Daily Express.
