Horndean Technology College in Waterlooville, Hampshire, has carried out a survey on the exercise habits of its nine- to 17-year-old pupils.
A large majority (80 per cent) of the 718 respondents (a 90 per cent response rate) questioned claimed that they are already engaged in physical activity outside of school, while the same number said they would be interested in using an out of school hours gym.
Almost 65 per cent said they would pay between £1 and £3 for an out of school hours exercise session and 23 per cent wanted more aerobics, followed closely by single-sex classes.
Horndean is now organising after school clubs and will open its facilities to the local community.
It was the first school in England to install an interactive gym designed by ZigZag.
