Tees Valley Leisure wins Redcar and Cleveland contract
Tees Valley Leisure has signed an initial two-year deal with Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council to manage the authority’s leisure facilities.
The sports trust’s main objective will be to develop an extended range of activities for young people and families as part of a mission to tackle obesity and encourage healthy lifestyles.
Existing leisure services will be overhauled and new schemes – such as free exercise classes for gym members, improved swimming lessons sponsored by swimming kit manufacturer Aquasphere and the launch of swimming galas – will be unveiled.
Paddy Corcoran, managing director of Tees Valley Leisure, said: ““This announcement will bring a whole raft of improvements to leisure facilities across the borough and we are excited about the opportunities we have to further help local residents get maximum benefit out the services on their doorsteps.”
Sheelagh Clarke, deputy leader for Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council added: “We have awarded this leisure contract to Tees Valley Leisure as they have an excellent track record and have a great team of friendly and professional staff, dedicated to providing people of all ages with a quality leisure experience wherever they visit. It is so important for our local people to have access to a wide range of sports and leisure facilities so they can stay fit and healthy.
An option exists to extend the contract for a further 18 years after the initial two-year period. “Throughout our sites we have gyms, swimming pools, exercise and dance studios, health suites, crèche facilities, bars and catering facilities, sports halls, outdoor multi-use games areas, function suites, a cyber valley IT suite and so much more.” Details: www.teesvalleyleisure.co.uk
