Tone Leisure launches Sportstreet
Tone Leisure, the leisure trust for Taunton Deane in Somerset, is launching an innovative programme to get more of the community active and involved in physical activity and sport.
Sportstreet will focus on a specific street in Taunton Deane for one month – with the selection is based on helping the most deprived streets in the region.
Starting in October, one street will be selected per month as Taunton Deane’s Sportstreet, and everyone living in that street will be able to use a range of activities free of charge for that month at local Tone Leisure facilities, including The Wellsprings Leisure Centre, Blackbrook Pavilion, Wellington Sports Centre and Taunton Pool.
Residents of the selected Sportstreet will be delivered a series of activity vouchers for use at the local leisure centres.
All they then need to do is take a form of identification which shows where they live and an activity voucher to one of the facilities during the month their street has been selected.
Activity vouchers will be issued for free swimming, free fitness classes and aquaerobic classes, free weekend tennis and badminton courts. Each household will be issued several vouchers.
Juliette Dickinson, managing director of Tone Leisure, said: “We will be targeting different streets throughout Taunton Deane which are likely to benefit from the Sportstreet programme the most, people who may not get opportunity to participate and whose participation is recognised as lower than other streets in Taunton Deane. Every month the selected Sportstreet will be changed.
“The aim of the scheme is to get residents who currently do not use their local leisure facilities to become regular users in the future.” Details: www.toneleisure.com
