Two design options for new Belper facility
Local residents in Belper, Derbyshire, are being asked to comment on two design options for the town's proposed new leisure complex.
Amber Valley Borough Council (AVBC) is working alongside Leeds-based Landmark Cannon on the project, which is being planned for a site off Field Lane and will help improve local leisure provision. One of the designs - now on display at several locations around the town - is a water-based venue, including a 25m, six-lane swimming pool, a training pool with moveable floor and a 70-station gym.
A health spa with treatment rooms, a hydrotherapy pool and sauna, a dance and aerobic studio and ancillary café facilities also feature as part of the first design. Meanwhile, a second option comprises a wet and dry facility that is to include a 25m, five-lane swimming pool, a teaching pool, a multi-use sports hall, a 50-station gym and a dance and aerobic studio.
AVBC leader Stuart Bradford said: "We think that the centre of Belper is an ideal location for a dedicated leisure facility, however the council is keen to receive the general public's views on the options proposed. "It's become clear that the existing facilities - as well used as they may be, offer only a limited scope and availability compared with other towns so we're just looking at how feasible a new and dedicated facility would be."
