Two new fitness facilities open at DCU
Both students and locals are benefiting from new fitness facilities following an investment of £10m at Dublin City University (DCU).
Two new facilities have opened at the University: the Elite Sports Performance Gym and the University Sports Club. Both have been equipped by Life Fitness, with the former offering sports-specific training to top athletes – including the Dublin football team – which currently trains at the facility alongside scholarship students and Irish sportsmen and women.
The University Sports Club is a private member’s club open to staff, students, alumni of the university and local residents. The 70,000sq ft facility offers an extensive gym – including a 50-piece cardiovascular training area – and more than 40 exercise classes a week.
The wet area includes a 25m pool, a sauna, a steamroom, therapeutic showers, a spa pool and a tepidarium.
The club runs a range of courses including cardiac rehabilitation, weight management, children’s camps, swimming lessons and Active for Life.
“One of the objectives of DCU is the continued strengthening of the campus as a vibrant social and learning environment and the pursuit of a holistic approach to student development,” said Ken Robinson, chief executive of DCU Sports.
“I am confident that we now offer one of the best fitness facilities in Ireland, which is diverse enough to meet the needs of those new to exercise, right through to elite level sports performers.”
