Work starts on new Desborough facility
Kettering Borough Council (KBC) has announced that work has started on the construction of a new energy-efficient leisure centre in Desborough, Northamptonshire.
Located on Ironwood Avenue, the first stage of the project will be led by CJC Developments in accordance with a legal agreement between the company and the local authority. A four-court sports hall, a fitness suite, changing facilities, play areas and a multi-use games area will form part of the first phase, which is due to be complete by the end of the year.
When complete, Hawthorns Leisure Centre will close and Parkwood Leisure will transfer its operation to the new facility, which will be next to 22 hectares (54 acres) of open space. Phase two - including grassed football pitches; squash courts; and additional changing areas for outdoor sport - will commence once KBC has secured funding.
