Work starts on new Rochdale leisure centre
Construction company Willmott Dixon has started preparatory work on the site of a new leisure centre for Rochdale, Greater Manchester.
The main-build phase of the KKA-designed scheme is due to start in early 2011, with the ground to be prepared for the foundations over the coming weeks. Facilities will include an eight-lane, 25m swimming pool and learner pool with a moveable floor; a sports hall; thermal and fitness suites; and dance studios.
A youth gym is also proposed as part of the development, which is being led by Rochdale Metropolitan Borough Council (RMBC) in partnership with Link4Life. Due to open in 2012, the project forms part of a wider £34m investment in sport and leisure that has been undertaken since the formation of Link4Life in 2007.
