No cheating at this card game
From the end of August, children using the gym at Rye Hills School in Redcar will be taking advantage of a new smart-card technology from HUR.
The school caters for youngsters from eleven to sixteen and has recently acquired status as a Sports College with Community Commitment.
The gym was installed by HUR and includes 12 of the company's air resistance fitness machines. These will be linked to a smart card system for use by the children, with the cards being personalised for the needs of each youngster and automatically updated as they progress.
Placing the card in each machine will set the resistance automatically and alert the user when the exercise target has been reached, allowing greater independence in training sessions.
HUR says that, in educational terms, the smart-card facility adds great value. The cards will collect the data from completed exercises - only exercises completed correctly with a full range of movement will be counted.
The data can then be transferred to a computer and manipulated through an Excel spreadsheet and used for study in IT, Science or Maths.
