Identifying a trend towards bodyweight training and developing strength through loaded balance moves sparked the development of Physical Company’s newly-launched parallettes. They were created in conjunction with Wild Training founder and personal trainer James Griffiths.

The Physical Company parallettes have been designed to be sturdy with handles made from a comfortable foam that offers good support and grip. Each weighs just over 2kg and are fitted with rubber feet to ensure stability and grip on the ground. The parallettes can be used indoors and outdoors on a range of floors and surfaces, according to the company.

Development also particularly focused on getting the size right – at 10 inches high and with handles 12 inches long, Physical Company says they are big enough to offer enough ground clearance to perform key moves but low enough to ensure people combine skills and strength to keep good form.

Parallettes were originally designed to simulate the parallel bars used by gymnasts. Being low to the ground, they are used in a similar way to push-up bars or dip-bars and can build strength through body-weight exercises. Typical exercises include L-sits, V-sits, push ups, planche holds and handstand skills. While the bodyweight is supported by the hands, parallette exercises also target the core and hip muscles to maintain balance and achieve a variety of postures.
